Cycle Repairs

The Bike Shop offers a full cycle repair repair service as well as routine servicing to most makes of cycles. Many repairs and services can be completed same day when booked in advance (subject to parts availability).

A free no obligation estimate can be given, simply bring your bike to the shop for inspection. It may be possible to give guidance on the price of repair over the telephone or via email. We will always try to complete small emergency repairs as quickly as possible (fit a new innertube etc).

A few example prices for common repairs

  1. Supply & fit a new standard butyl innertube, most bikes = £12.99 (booking not normally required)
  2. Supply & fit a new stainless steel inner gear cable, most bikes = £12.99
  3. Supply & fit a new bottom bracket (VP, most sizes) = £34.99
  4. Fill & bleed a hydraulic disc brake with new Dot or mineral brake fluid (one brake) = £18.00
  5. True a wheel (when no replacement spokes needed) from £15.00

Service options

Basic Safety Check

A basic safety check on your bike covers the tensioning of most nuts, bolts & fastenings, Tyres will be inflated to correct pressure & checked for correct seating & wear. Gears will be checked for smooth and correct operation and adjustments made where necessary / possible.

Brake pad alignment will be checked and adjusted, brakes will be checked for smooth and correct operation and adjustments made where necessary / possible.

From £40* + parts.

All new bikes sold by us receive a free safety check within 12 weeks of purchase.

Standard Service

A standard service on your bike covers the checking of wheel, headset & bottom bracket bearings for any play and adjustment made where necessary / possible. Most nuts, bolts & fastenings will be checked for tension.

Tyres will be inflated to correct pressure & checked for correct seating & wear. The seat post (if not seized) will be removed from the frame, cleaned & fresh grease applied.

Gears will be checked for smooth and correct operation, gear cables will be lubricated and adjustments made where necessary / possible.

For bikes with V type or similar brakes, pad alignment will be checked and adjusted, brake cables will be lubricated brakes will be removed from bosses, bosses will be cleaned & greased, brakes will be checked for smooth and correct operation and adjustments made where necessary / possible.

For bikes with hydraulic disc brakes, rotors will be checked for trueness and callipers checked for alignment over rotor ( It is recommended brake fluid is replaced every two years, this can be done at an extra cost).

Wheels will be checked for trueness & when possible adjusted to within 2mm.

£65* + parts (£10 extra for replacement of brake fluid).

Full Service

A full service on your bike covers the replacement of bearings in the headset, front & rear wheels (not bottom bracket as most of these are now sealed units). Most nuts, bolts & fastenings will be checked for tension.

Tyres will be inflated to the correct pressure & checked for correct seating & wear. The seat post (if not seized) will be removed from the frame, cleaned & fresh grease applied.

Gears will be checked for smooth and correct operation, gear cables will be lubricated and adjustments made where necessary / possible.

For bikes with V type or similar brakes, pad alignment will be checked and adjusted, brake cables will be lubricated brakes will be removed from bosses, bosses will be cleaned & greased, brakes will be checked for smooth and correct operation and adjustments made where necessary / possible.

*Any replacement brake or gear cable or brake pads will be fitted free of charge when fitted as part of a service ( you just pay extra for the parts). Any other parts that need replacing may be subject to an extra fitting charge – you will of course be advised of this.
